Meet Your Instructors

Patricia Gorla

Patricia is a product manager at Thatch, where she cultivates tools to help employers navigate and implement ICHRA. She previously worked as a Solutions Architect at Stripe on key and strategic deals, and won regional and team awards for her work. Patricia's background is in software engineering at companies including Etsy and Apple.

In her free time, she enjoys studying ancient Greek and Roman history. And yes, she does think about the Roman empire every day.

Karun Kannan

Karun is a solutions engineer at Thatch, where he's helped employers evaluate and adopt Thatch's ICHRA solution. Before transitioning to customer-facing roles, he spent two years building Thatch’s core product offerings. Karun brings deep health tech experience from his time at Verily (part of Alphabet), where he built chronic care management point solutions.

When he's not working with customers, you can find him rooting for another Celtics championship or out for a run along the Charles River.

Bruce Johnson

Bruce Johnson is Head of Policy at Thatch, where he leads the company’s efforts to shape the future of healthcare regulation. He has fifteen years experience in law and public policy, with particular expertise in the regulatory frameworks governing financial services, labor and employment, and employer health benefits. Bruce previously served as Director, Federal Affairs for Boeing, a global aerospace manufacturer, and Assistant General Counsel for Policy at Brex, a leading b2b fintech focused on simplifying expense management for companies as they scale. At Brex, Bruce also served as Chairman of the Financial Technology Association, where he worked directly with other innovative fintechs to shape policy affecting the financial services industry. His work with Brex and the FTA earned Bruce recognition by Washingtonian magazine as one of the most influential people shaping policy. 

Bruce is a veteran of the House Financial Services Committee staff and the United States Air Force. He holds a law degree from Georgetown Law and a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy. In his free time, Bruce enjoys watching and collecting blu-ray discs and spending more time than reasonable on home DIY projects.

Do I have to be at every session? How long are they?

Each session is one hour, and will be recorded. With that being said, if you don’t join you’ll be missing out on the interactive parts of the course / the ability to ask questions. Joining live is highly recommended - but the slides and recording will be provided post course completion.

Will I be an ICHRA expert after finishing this course?

Yes and no - this course will provide a strong foundation in ICHRA, including how it works, how to assess its fit for an organization, and what future policy changes may bring. However, there are additional nuances that won’t be covered, and the landscape is evolving rapidly. We encourage you to refer back to this course and continue learning to stay ahead in this space.

Is there a lot of work?

We offer quizzes and interactive exercises, including a take-home activity on employee classing - but all materials are optional.

You can simply listen to the lectures, but we recommend engaging with the exercises for a deeper understanding.
